Over the last few months we have focused on compiling a list of journals for historical demographic research by consulting with our ambassadors and our board of recommendation. This was done because there are so many journals in which historical demographic research is published, but it is not always easy to find this research or to determine the best outlet your own papers. Therefore we try to give an overview of journals in which historical demographers publish their results most often. We grouped them together by main field as far as possible and in the future we will add more information on measures of journal ‘quality’, such as impact factors. Important to note, however, is that this list is not exhaustive (for example ‘national’ journals are excluded) and that you should always ask senior colleagues in your department about which journals will be best received by your university/field and thus may benefit your academic career. The list can
be viewed here.
To connect people in real life we organized a couple of informal events during the European Social Science History Conference in Belfast (4-7 April, 2018) and the European Population Conference (EAPS) in Brussels (6-9 June, 2018). These events were attended by around 10-20 young historical demographers and were both nice evenings spent meeting old, and new, friends and discussing research ideas and life as a historical demographer in general. For the next year we are planning to organize a special meeting during the 10th Day for Young Demographers in February in Prague and are already planning our official meeting at the European Society for Historical Demography (ESHD) in Pécs, Hungary 26-29 June, 2019. Keep an eye on our Facebook, Twitter, newsletter and website to stay updated about the final details. Lastly, we say a fond fair-well to two more board members, Benjamin Matusak and Stephanie Thiehoff. We thank them for their hard work and dedication to the association over the last two years. We are happy to welcome Michail Raftakis as our new PR-Officer.
